Xe M. Sánchez

DENDE FAI TIEMPU

Dende fai un tiempu
fálase abondu
d’anuncies falses.

Nun son
un inventu modernu.

De xemes en cuandu,
cuandu lleo
dellos llibros d’hestoria,
cuéstame enforma
atopar la llende
pente la hestoria
y la propaganda.

BALES

El llinguax ye’l preséu
col que los poetes
semen la so collecha
d’ausencies,
d’esperances,
de tiempu
echáu a beloxe.

El llinguax
ye una pantasma
pigazando
que caltién la sabencia
del pasáu
y ye la llave’l futuru.

El llinguax
ye un cañón poderosu
que nun emplega
pólvora nin bales.
Poro les mios pallabres
enxamás son inocentes.

FOR SOME TIME NOW

For some time now,
there is much talk
about fake news.

They are not
a modern invention.

Sometimes,
when I read
history books,
I find it extremely difficult
to find the border
between history
and propaganda.

BULLETS

Language is the tool
with which poets
sow their crop
of absences,
of hopes,
of wasted time.

Language
is a sleeping specter
who preserves the wisdom
of the past,
is the key
to the future.

Language
is a powerful cannon
which uses neither
gunpowder nor bullets.
That’s why my words
are never innocent.

[translated from the Asturian by the author]
