Man With Beak

This is where a body’s led down a path
cobblestone, up upholstered staircase red
where murder spreads its wings below, bloodbath
of feathered corpses, crow. Design, you tread
upon, tremulous feet — slate flock, crimson
sky, heart beating fleet as they seem to fly
with each blurred blink of an addled eye. Sun
above, a bay window, crude sculptures scried
still follow sister carried step above,
by arms in morning coat, leather gloved. Small,
female hand around your shoulder tight shoves
you past stained glass refracted light through hall
of skeletons to bedchamber. In dreams you peek
what punctures forearm is a man with beak.
