Tom Beckett

A Desultory Improvisation
     for Jordan Stempleman

Art's surrogates engineer the interposition

Of general templates between audience

And object.

I'm not an optimistic person.

I propose to adhere

To an image of disaggregation.

Language extends in time.

Experience, though, is recessive.

Shadows become residues.

Crushing an Object

Coupling with an Idea

Abstraction makes wine.

Taxing us with its axioms

Experiment's "pungent company"

Is in the house.
