too good to be true

I woke up this morning with the distinct impression that I hadn’t actually woken up at all. The world was trying too hard to please me; a bright sun illuminated autumnal colours, the garden plants danced rhythmically in syncopated gusts of wind, and birds from disparate tropical locations were crowded in the money tree, scattering notes and coins below.

David J Kelly is an ecologist based in Dublin, Ireland. His first collection of Japanese short form poetry, Hammerscale from the Thrush’s Anvil (Alba), was published in November 2016. He continues to work on a second.
