Ed Higgins
barricades/barracuda
I have put up these words
like barricades, no
barracuda,
to deny you
easy access
yet I want you
to discover
beyond the sometimes
fierce surprise
of male genus
what I have forgotten
temporarily
that we circle
linked by sun
and moon tides
you & I
around worlds
of fishy words
collecting up
small gill bits
of love’s
breathable truth
when we dare.
Ed Higgins' poems and short fiction have appeared in various print and online journals including: Monkeybicycle, Danse Macabre, and Triggerfish Critical Review, among others. Ed is Asst. Editor for Brilliant Flash Fiction. He has a small farm in Yamhill, OR, raising a menagerie of animals—including a rooster named StarTrek.
