Paul Pfleuger, Jr.
Two Poems
adore attract devote attach
into match made heaven
made honest spouse of
aisle act knot tied
filled with blessing bliss
the altar ring lines
we say obligated plunge
then comes post honeymoon
settled down into hitch
bells and performance vows
other better half habits
or better far worse
formula mating of conveniences
I do conjugal chore
practice this parity oath
taken thee to be
the whole nine yards
the rest of days
honored domestic harmony routine
the or poorer realization
saying I duty
my ball and chain
happily ever after idea
sweet nothing as much
asked for hand back
until the undo part
***
drunk alum I am
we were
he she said
be spoken for
pictured in
for the sound
lost together
our generation
degenerate
we multiplied
noise in space
scrapped books
reminisce or another
stay did static
glacial inward
plain as played
bubble if pressed
express still
some of us
mean clear
exercise
under self
got control
managed visibility
read liberty
with judgment
a haul
***
