from INFORMATION

INFORMATION

Slices bread or cheese or a piece of meat. Slices a watermelon or an apple. Slices a cookie that is shaped like a man, and a cake that represents tomorrow. Slices the piece of string that keeps the kite from escaping. Slices the card that is essential to play the game.

INFORMATION

The facts that are important are not yet included in the story. Instead there is only a frog that is no more than a frog, and a man who cannot yet pronounce the word “never.”

INFORMATION

He went to the fruit stand to buy some elephants. This is not the story of the creation of fire. Instead of machines they were trained to use the ocean. The distance that stretched below them was the explanation for the rotation of the stars.

INFORMATION

There was a dog constructed of cantaloupes that was too large to fit in the refrigerator. They carried it to the boat instead and watched as it slowly drifted out to sea. This was how the first mirror was created, how the window was finally understood to be a replica of their hearts.

INFORMATION

The skeleton remembers the flesh that once surrounded it, but is unable to use that memory to restore it once again.

INFORMATION

The animals changed once they were measured. Their measurements changed once they were described. There was never a difference between the armadillo and the giraffe, between the anemone and the rhinoceros, between the crow and the platypus. Naming them was always an adventure that caused them to hesitate.

INFORMATION

Lost her enthusiasm about the wings she no longer knew how to use. Lost her enthusiasm about the man whose skin hid all kinds of possibilities. Lost her enthusiasm about the word “maple” and the shape the sea assumed. Lost her enthusiasm before she ever learned about counting.

INFORMATION

Could not enter any room the light had entered first.

INFORMATION

A careful application of the strap or radish can be used to prevent democracy in most households. Sometimes daffodils or the number three can also be useful. The purchase of a separate machine will usually not be necessary.

INFORMATION

Was told about love and thought what a nice dream it was. Was told about the forest and the deep oceans and the sky that still remembered how to speak. Was told about the animals that never crept close enough to be seen and the languages they no longer spoke. Was told about the discovery of measuring and counting. Was told about color and almost remembered.

INFORMATION

Understands that language is a weapon of last resort, able to change the room only after the cat or sewing machine has been eliminated from the discussion. Understands that the man and woman have a different kind of symmetry. Understands that counting is never an option.

INFORMATION

The reason he had three hands was that he was dreaming.

Bob Heman lives on the west end of Long Island in what was once the city of Brooklyn.
