Serkan Işın was born in 1976 in Istanbul, Turkey and began creating visual poetry in 2002.. He is the founder and editor of zinhar, a magazine and weblog devoted to visual poetry. He published his first poetry book in 1999, and other books have appeared in 2000, 2002 and 2005.
He categorizes poetry in two big parts theoretically: conventional poetry and visual poetry and he considers lyric, epic and modern poetry as branches under conventional title. Zinhar's first printed issue was in 2002, and it now has web sites at www.zinhar.com and www.poetikhars.com. His and his colleagues' works can be seen at zinharpost.blogspot.com
