Thomas Fink and Maya Fink

DESTINY’S DAY OFF

What would
you do
if your shadow
was leaking? Thus
far in this life,

nothing has proved impossible.
Destiny’s day off.
Can barely envision
rope’s end. Or
even the rope.

Last time I checked, our
shadow was
leaking. How
could we obtain
enough soap to
wash the ocean?

THEME SONG

Whales and dogs are closely related.
They found a correlation in ear bones.
Horses used to have toes.
They were once the size of dogs.
It was just evolution.
Besotted chickens
(guinea hens)

were bopping up the hillside.
I wanted to be a British child
with a TV show and a theme song.
She was the driver,
so she had to—
in some woods. What if
the villagers found it and were terrified?
“That’s not a bear’s;
that’s my mother.”
But by then, we were covering
a different highway.
Chickens can live without their brains.
And I’ve lived without a theme song.
