COUNTING THE STARS

The man paced in the dark.
He counted all the stars in
the sky. He made a sketch

in his mind that was filled
with stars and a full moon.
He shot a gun at the

moon and sang out like a
wolf. He wept for more stars.

Luis Cuauhtemoc Berriozabal was born in Mexico. His first book of poetry, Raw Materials, was published by Pygmy Forest Press in 2004. His latest chapbook, Garden of Rocks, was published by Kendra Steiner Editions in July 2008.
