Robert Lee Brewer

Why I never mention the traffic report

cover yourself in gasoline & wait
for developing nations to wage war
over who has the highest bid to bring
you home naked & hysterical—you
clawing at your own face & how you held
your phone whispering we had a blast while
it blasted—protect your investments &
elections, the lane you travel within
while listening to commercials about
correcting your vision, fixing your face
& removing your hair with those lasers

Robert Lee Brewer is the editor of Writer's Market and sole contributor to the Poetic Asides blog. His poetry has been (or will be) published in several print and online publications, including Barn Owl Review, MEAT, Otoliths, and MiPOesias (Cafe Cafe Edition). When not reading or writing, he's usually doing something else that ends in "ing."
