Felino Soriano

Approbations 11
—after Anthony Braxton’s 138a Ballade

A swan’s elegance. Dusted photo holding
mother’s father’s chiseled ambiguity.
Ballerina on swollen toes, dainty, holding pose’s
validated posture, perpendicular meditation. Prayer.
Serenading blackbird, searching lover’s favorite
oak-bent arm, attaching talon curiosity
gnarled holding brown
a branch’s elegance signs into
wind’s blinded error of rotations.

Love. Worded maturation, manuscript
devotional prose pieced musical view
lying limp atop the neckline of her
skin’s softened structure, undisturbed.

Approbations 12
—after Pharoah Sanders’ Morning Prayer

Man’s digress
stilled in the egoist stance, external
manifestation. Looking
toward lake’s absolute accuracy:

tiny tongue throws toward bank’s
understanding listening
elongated language of tonal repetition, truth
targeting misunderstanding of the watching
man’s tongued masterful deception.

Water’s idiom atonal emerge
similar to dissipating veneer of
dandelion’s tumbling escape.

Man watches
water unfold onto ridged diagram of
elevated understanding, finding tongue’s
foreign pronunciation
fall to the flowing spectrum
widening elasticized questions unfocused
among answering questions of philosophy of
meditating rationale.
