Reed Altemus
Reed Altemus is an intermedia artist working with technology in new media- digital collage, artistamps, visual poetry, xerography, and micropress. His involvement in visual communication art and technologies spans a twenty year period from the late 1980ies when he discovered mail art after exiting the Portland music scene. Networked art, collaboration, technological printmaking, artists' networking, Beuysian social sculpture are just some of the watchwords of his practice. His interest in correspondence art in which his greatest mentor was Carlo Pittore persists to this day. His early activity (1990) in internet art and art database construction (see his bibliography of copy art at the Leonardo website) were pioneering.
He lives and works in Portland Maine.
