De Villo Sloan earned a PhD in literature from the State University of New York at Buffalo where he studied with Robert Creeley and served as an editor of Black Mountain (II) Review. Beginning in the 1980s he became increasingly involved in Vispo, briefly published a journal called Access, and published a book titled Ourang-Outang. In recent years he was involved in a large project involving literary theory and archaeology, which resulted in the publication of another book The Crimsoned Hills of Onondaga (Camria Press 2008).
