Olivier Cans











Olivier Cans is a French artist born in 1973 in the U.S. He graduated in fine art in 2002 at the "Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts" in Paris. He studied with the artist Claude Viallat for three years, and for another two years with the multimedia artist Annette Messager. In 2000-2001, during his studies, he spent eight months on an exchange program in Toronto, Canada, where he developed conceptual art around body art in color photography and drawing. He also did some visual performances during that time, based on super 8 film and video projections. After completing his diploma in Paris, he went back to Toronto for three years to work on some new projects based on dolls like Ken and Barbie that he transformed into different characters like Jean-Michel Basquiat and Vincent Van Gogh.

He has been back in Paris since 2006 and has continued his art with shows in various galleries and other alternative spaces. Since 2009 he has done a lot of collages and mixed objects, and has come back to drawing and painting. He has had his own art studio in Paris since 2010 where he continues to work. Since 2013 he has also cconducted animated art classes for children in schools.
