Ric Carfagna

from Symphony No.12
(formation of the labyrinth)

31

Speak of these clouds
“insofar as I can”
understand
the reason the still
water is
agitated by wind
as if some elementary
formulation of logic
is skewed
into a cubist dimensionality
and as if the recto
and verso of this
terrestrial observation
is lacking in some
unfathomable conscious depth
and farther
than the eye can gather
the plasticity
of this human embrace
travels through light years
never knowing
why it returns
unrequited
and dies
sotto voce
in an unmarked grave

Ric Carfagna was born and educated in Boston Massachusetts. He is the author of numerous collections of poetry, most recently: Symphonies Nos. 5, & 9 published by White Sky Books-
