Michael Gould is a Canadian New Zealander, resident in Wellington for the past 25 years and recently retired from a career in administration in health and education; now writing full time.

His book, Surrealism and the Cinema: Open-eyed Screening, was published in 1976, but he had already turned to making visual poetry. Several pieces were published by, or exhibited at, two of Canada’s main venues for experimental art (The Western Front, Vancouver; A Space Gallery, Toronto); and included in Canada’s first show of colour Xerox art. He was writing as “mr nice guy”.

He then abandoned all creative writing. Only in the past few years has he started to write again, mostly light or lyrical verse. Poems have recently appeared, or soon will appear, in Snorkel, Meniscus, Landfall and The Spinoff.
