Mary Cresswell

LUNAR ECLIPSE

Umbra and penumbra
               au clair de la lune
relatively rare
               mon ami Pierrot
really Rayleigh scattered
               prête-moi ta plume
planet blocks the glow
               pour écrire un mot.

Near to perihelion
               ma chandelle est morte
always when the sun
               je n’ai plus de feu
overlapping circles
               ouvre-moi ta porte
blood-red field of view
               pour l’amour de Dieu!

Mary Cresswell is from Los Angeles and lives on New Zealand’s Kāpiti Coast. She has published poems and reviewed books for a variety of journals. Her most recent book is a satiric miscellany, Field Notes, from Mākaro Press.
