Flora Michèle Marin

Les Pauvres

Flora Michèle Marin (1937-2011), a biologist, fled the Romania of Ceausescu at the age of 45 with her young daughter and sought political asylum in France. She discovered contemporary art in France and took classes in art history at the Center Georges Pompidou. To her, art was a medium for conveying a political message. Her themes were poverty, exclusion, and gender equality. She died of lung cancer at the age of 74.

These photographs come from the collection of her daughter, Alexandra Bouge. Some of them have previously appeared in Levure littéraire.
