Some Short Form Poems
she says I'm alone in wanting to bite the hump of a bullock
must remember to tell her Stravinsky stood on his head
secretly wishing the orangutan had stuffed Dupin up the chimney
two brush strokes and there's a crow in a blizzard
showing up with a red wig and a single line manifesto
when it is all said and done, we can blame it on the left-handed amino acids
facing the fact that the ailanthus doesn't need me anymore
they're in there, he told the cops, and went back to reading The Brothers Karamazov
the e's are not missing from Georges Perec's name

Bravo, Patrick. These are magnificent monostich poems.
What a delight that you bring in so well the lyrical self into such a short verse form.
I mean the self-consciousness of you and your wife- she's right, you know, not to many have a desire to bit the hump of a bullock.
But, I love how you proceed and "prove" yourself by pointing out a truth few know: Stravinsky did do headstands and well, if you eat humps, that's not so different is it?
I marvel that you find such a fluent and fun way to broaden the poems through allusions, something so few do with this form of poetry. And to move so deftly from Dostoevsky, to Poe, and Perec is just wonderful.
And you include the allusions with a knowledge of the author's works and psychology. It's just wonderful.
Your humor is so valued by me: the quirky one line manifesto proclaimed in a red wig: and finding the fault in the gauche handed DNA.
Thanks so much for these. I'm very glad I got to know you even if in a small degree.
Galmitz san,
I'm overwhelmed. And so, so grateful.
Patrick
Galmitz san,
Thanks for your close reading. You are a reader who needs no footnotes.
So grateful.
