Dark Recess / FALTER
The Emergency
The body burned up magic.
in taxidermy snow
what showed up at night?
at my window
wolf – raven – butterfly
road treacherous
impassible trees
in silent landfill
of tires scorching scent
smoke
we cough into row of beds,
systemic emergency
sheltered torso
in measured breath
metronomic tapping
a branch lung alveolus
your hand, coldly,
placed to heart’s
patriotic reach
vitriol victrola
disconnect
the electricity water glass

a classic array of
migratory arrangements
and a diasporic journalist
in the falling dark
Manhattan after midnight
tumbling to green carpeted
floor, someone else whispering,
you must rise again,
rise up, my darling.

BLUE RUINS OF THE
     WATCH
Conductions folded into polyphonic wonder (New Composition for Five Voices and Orchestra)
                                             - for Butch Morris
1. Sustainable Ear
A place to sort through
               sustainable Ear.
Loud concerto, building momentum.
Metallic bells, the known and unknown.
A strong regular breathing introduces
a heavy pulse. Garden interstices, interior
mystery, star instruments – silence
as pause – not applause.
2. Airport (New Composition)
Inquisitive how the Air is tuned, in
street songs – the buzz and
hum the jazz -- to amplify polyphony
in an erratic world. – shocking sound hierarchies –
beyond Vibrations beyond
Thunderclaps and rivet guns –
To sort -- idea music – in the strong,
regular breath of your sleeping
Metronomic – calm -- ambulance,
               folded beyond sensory
overload – in cascading
sound fragments,
               listening to inner nuance,
The silent part: most beautiful
colour – sunset, layered
over jackhammers. To new
ecstasies see – Music – as watery – seas –
then,
               introduce improvisational
coda.
3. Living Strings
Night of opera – open spaces –
Desert emptiness. Cicada under
stars. Vague and spectral –
The tone haunted bridge, solo beat
voicings.
Big band more physical
than sun crackles. Clatter of noise
Empty tumult. Coyote tracks –
               Embraces in dawn’s thrum
healing a horizontal lament.
4. Tone Haunted Melodies
Imagining Beethoven as crystal spirals around ambient stars.
Clock face elevator.               Hum to a minor heartbeat.
Metronome visa. Traveling –
guitar in the plane trees. Spectral
drift     the unreleased mix
Empty the cranked up industrial moon.
5. Brooklyn
Peace as music: shooting comets,
swirling stars -- blinking cloud formations,
the sky is building momentum.
Sound fragments, listen for feeling.
In the silent
part, a mother is singing
lullabies.
Composing and conducting these most beautiful colours. Room filters
talk
               wires, buzzing Cinema scores ecstatic.
