Vera Constantineau
Times Like These
times like these
the urge to call home
to listen to mother
launch a story
that would often take
hours to get through
overwhelms
sometimes it would be
the ones of dad
sometimes her
memories of
her grandparents
passed on like
a gift that
gave and gave
of itself
like my mother
who gave of her self
with tales of other times
filling up empty spaces
pushing out loneliness
in times like these
Less and More
weighs
less than
a sparrow
this ache
yet so much
more than
the stone
that marks
the grave
